When Framework told me they were making a completely repairable laptop I assumed it would be a flimsy chonker... I've never been so happy to be wrong.

  • I've been watching these guys since I first heard of them, being in the UK though limits my access...

  • I can see this being the darling for businesses that have an IT department and need laptops

  • I want one! If I hadn't literally just upgraded my laptop 2 mos ago I'd buy one.

  • So, no GPU is available now for this laptop. It sucks.

  • 11:53 is legit a feverdream xd

  • Correction (please like this so more people see): It's not USB 3.2, the Type-C ports are USB4 (yes, that *the* USB4, you know, the one that has eGPU support)

  • What an amazing product 😍 If only I needed a laptop, I would get this one. Maybe when it's time to upgrade, and they release an external GPU box for this one?

  • My old HP Pavillion 17in had a PGA socketable CPU, and I was even able to upgrade my i5 to an i7. There was no IHS, so it cant really say that the CPU took all that much more space then a soldered one. Bring that back plwase?

  • You being hyped about this laptop hypes me up too... thanks for the showcase UwU

  • those excuses have NEVER held up...

  • and no bloatware.

  • 16:15

  • Num pad version and I would legitimately buy one when I replace my current laptop

  • who needs a touchscreen on a laptop? i‘ve had one for the past 9 years and have hardly ever found it useful.

  • We can finally build the terminal from Don't Touch Anything

  • 5:06 the definition of an inside job…

  • This is the way they should all be built. Way back whenn.. I bought the sager ( alienware, falconware) laptop. It was a beast but fully buildable. Whe. This gets touch.. I will def be ordering. The right guy to be backing this product. Following you since your start.

  • ngl, this video made me take the plunge. I ordered one. It arrives in 7 days. Thanks Linus!

  • This reminds me of the modular phone that was getting attention before Google bought it and never spoke another word about it. Hopefully the Framework team doesn’t fall for the same trick.

  • @Framework, all you have to do is stick on decent stylus compatible screen and I'll give you $2,500 for that device right now. No joke.

  • Looking forward to a Ryzen version. Thunderbolt to support external GPUs would seal the deal today!

    • Apparently, while not officially supported yet (probably still going through the TB certification process), it does work.

  • What about gaming? Obviously not on this model. Bring the graphics solution and I'm in.

  • In response to your 'why have clips when you can have magnets....' I blame magnetic bits in laptops and keyboard hand rests for at least 3 destroyed credit card strips. thankfully that is really not an issue anymore since the U.S. is finally out of the dark ages and uses chips now. Only about 10 years behind the rest of the developed world, who have all been nfid for awhile now.

  • I am not even in the market for a laptop and I want one of these. I have not gotten to the screen part yet. I hope it has a touchscreen option, as that is a dealbreaker for me to not have in a laptop. I don't even use it that much, but when I want to use it, it needs to be there.

    • Aaaand just got to that part. Nope. Don't want at all anymore. Maybe they will offer that one day.

  • Asus are now ripping off their customers, they claim certain laptops are HDD upgradeable for example the Vivobook M451 even boasts about it in their product Overview Only one small downside to this, what you may ask? Asus have removed the Gasket - Cable and Mylar and you have to purchase them separately, of which none of this is stated in their product overview in fact it's only when you go to fit the HDD you quickly realise there is nothing to fit too??????? what makes this even more funnier is that Asus in fact no one has the parts. Absolute scam. Asus's reason for not supplying these parts were, people may throw them away and not recycle causing harm to the environment????????????????????????????????

  • finally

  • "WHERE'S MY TYPE A PORT? THE DELL'S NOT EVEN F&$#@ING THINNER!" 😂 I know it's an integrated unit, but this is exactly why I stand by my LG Gram. Way more portable and STILL HAS FULL SIZE USB AND HDMI for days! It's like taking away headphone jacks on phones. It's an arbitrary and annoying dictation.

  • Now imagine a touch/stylus screen and the ability to be used as a desktop screen

  • I feel like this could propel a lot of people into the diy pc building world

  • Check the dell precision m3800. It also has easy access for upgrating the device

  • I really hope framework are successful enough to start shipping in UK... If they build one with an ISO keyboard, I'll buy one instantly.

  • LOL only 2k Dell's 3k employees dislike this vide0.

  • I'd buy one.

  • The modular doodad thingamejigs... I love the technical jargon. I like the sound and look of this laptop.

  • Oops... I thought you said 'Cheese kill.'

  • Is that a galaxy note 9 in 2021?

    • @GammΩ I do distinctly remember him praising the note 9 back in 2018. He loves it.

    • @b888he just prefers it. Maybe he switches to Fold3 if the short thingy works

    • @GammΩ well I'm pretty sure he has enough money for a S21 Ultra & should have got a free review unit as well. Note 9 is one of my favorite notes too. It's feature rich, still solid performance & classy. My dad has a note 8 and I still want to best it by buying a note 9 but my concern s are software updates and battery life. Pretty aure SD845 should last for 2021 and probably even half of 2022. But software and battery life are a major concerns, note 9 doesn't even have official custom roms/aosp support that xiaomi phones have. I don't think 5G is personally going to that much of an issue as its not widespread where I live. Found an offer for $200, might just jump on it.

    • He said it many times, he likes the phone, would take the Fold but it has a weird bug that makes it impossible to use the SLflow shorts, which he needs for work. So he keeps daily driving the Note when he doesnt test one

  • I would like Linus to cry a river

  • If they do IPO. I am buying

  • Linus, are you still 12 to wear the cap backwards? Ruins the video.

  • I bet this bad boy runs Linux like a champ.... I WANT ONE! I SOOOOOOO BADLY WANT ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This thing is AWESOME! PLEASE SELL IT IN THE UK!!!!!

  • this is the best

  • Okay, I bought one. Arrived yesterday. Very impressed and have no regrets. I just hope they are still around in 5 years.

  • The abortive soccer neatly develop because recorder biosynthetically squeal during a living battery. questionable, fresh gauge

  • Magnetic charging port DIY done already slflow.info/town/kpCoh7CD1mHc25A/video

  • But where's my discrete GPU? If they offer a model in the future that has a place for one, I'm sold.

  • Looks at frame.work site -> Oh, AMD does not exist. wow ok.

  • Now thats what we call *user friendly*

  • Dear parents, just because your child is smiling at their phone, doesn’t mean they have boyfriend or girlfriend, they just watching this masterpiece!!!

  • 8:36 ~ 8:43 Bullshit. 100%. Look up the Samsung RV411 laptop, for instance. You can swap and drop in a new CPU without any soldering whatsoever, and it's a laptop.

  • This is awesome! Thank you to @Louis Rossman for pointing out your investment video.

  • ordering 2 of these badboys right NOW!

  • Clearly Linus is trying to sell you this!!!!! I'm a Detective!

  • Damn ... I'm going to make sure this is the daily driver in our company!

  • So it has the usb dongle built in?

  • i'll take a hello kitty keyboard, pls

  • 10:44

  • I want this with MACos

  • 9:27 I realized that Linus put the wifi cable in the wrong way lol (notice the triangle color code)

  • I LOVE THIS

  • We have the software Linus in charge of Linux, but now that Linus from LTT has invested into Framework, we also have _the hardware Linus,_ making a computer that is pretty much _the hardware Linux_

  • hey, theres a micro center near where i live lol

  • epic

  • This is so sweet. I love this approach. Hope they succeed!

  • "I like this. dont get me wrong, this is good but i like this"

  • I wish I found out about this laptop at the beginning of the summer when I purchased a new one...

  • This looks fantastic

  • I didnt say anything..... 😁😂

  • This is my next computer

  • 9:15 framework puts the color coding for the cable right on the card; linus still plugs it in the wrong one.

  • I kinda hope they built in a passthrough connector to the screen so when they release a touch digitizer you can just take off the front bezel and just pop it into place.

  • Im buying one when my current laptop dies.

  • Never seen Linus this happy

  • 11:57 im crying XDDDDDDD

  • I have a question about the charger. It has been a few hours science I mailed the Support team of Framework, but I cant wait because I need to buy the laptop in USA and send it to Argentina (it's my actual residence country). The charger only supports an input of 120/140 volts or supports 220/240 volts? @ Linus Tech Tips

  • Man i know the Pain, how much it hurts when your laptop becomes useless cuz of Single F*cking Part Damage. Framework is doin such a great Job!

  • 11:45 I'm FUCKING crying

  • Fuck the size man! Why care how thick and heavy it is, the more powerful it is. I mean it is a tool, not a jewelry, right??😎😎

  • In regards to solid rigidity despite being really thin. It's all about profiling, bracing and anchoring. This is how we can make a platform you can walk and jump on with barely any flex, using sheet metal not much thicker than a few layers of aluminium foil. You can do a lot of it with plastics too, but sandwich and anchor some pretty thin polycarbonate or nylon with thin steel - you got yourself some serious wizardry.

  • NOBODY WANTS TOUCH SUPPORT. JUST STOP.

  • Pops together like a little LEGO

  • 1:38 😂 wooh hoo hoo 😅 Almost did a downgrade

  • you mentioned linus about throwing in that fat 1TB module for steam but when customising the laptop theres no options for GPUs on frameworks website

  • Shouldn't you do a metrics video?

  • Nice !

  • 9:05 Wait what... THAT IS A THING?!?! 9:30 LINUS, THE ARROWS, BLACK TO BLACK, WHITE TO WHITE, NOOOOOOoooo... :( 17:25 Activate Windows, my dude.

  • Could be interesting prospect for small computer shops. Being able to buy parts from framework. Then being able to have their workshop techs preconfigure machines based on customer demand rather then having to buy machines based on the whims of various hardware manufacturers. The repair angle is also nice. Since often an unrepairable laptop can loose a small computer shop money if they come in. Although considering the PCs that sell in my area. I'm excited for when they can start offering budget components. Celerons or Pentiums to be exact.

  • Love this video

  • I'll buy one with a Ryzen CPU as soon as they become available. Immediately and without question.

    • mdfX1, there is no framework with AMD, but did you know you can build your own? (Not kidding, on the website there is the DIY edition).

  • RISC-V in the future, the Linux Community is going to love that.

  • "Someone can come along and design a magnetic charger and mimic it." Yeah, someone did. AND he also designed an enclosure for his mouse radio.

  • This is the future of laptops. Hands down, the modular design means there is no upper limit for what you can do to this thing.

  • Honestly so over my Dell laptop after the Dell repair center did a number on my laptop, the next computer repair shop I sent it too even called me up complaining of how shitty of a job they did with the repair(btw when I got it back from the Dell repair center, it came back with more problems then I originally had, which was I just needed a charging port replaced), they didn't even seat the ssd correctly according to the other repair shop. And the keyboard is no longer working right anymore and it's not a driver issue, and a replacement part from my research is basically unobtainable unless your a certified Dell repair technician and get it straight from dell for a stupid amount of money or pay even more to buy a broken version of the same model laptop and hope it has a working keyboard; definitely gonna consider these guys for my next laptop, hopefully they can come with/work with Nvidia graphics so I can run my simulation software on it

  • This is amazing. I hope they will produce a 2 in 1 Laptop with pen/digitizer support in the future. If that happens I will order immediately.

  • I definitely love this whole idea a lot, but I want to see this kind of idea on a tablet. I always prefer tablet over a laptop for being much lighter and smaller to bring everywhere.

  • and now linus is a shareholder in framework lol

  • Can't the USB C expansion have two USB C connectors on it? Is there enough space? That would be nice.

    • It's not possible to put two USB-C connector in one expansion card. You have to buy two of them if you want two USB-C port.

  • 10:45 someone was foreshadowing 😂
